Backed Into a Corner

If you have ever been around a cat, dog, or pretty much any animal long enough, you know, they do not like to be cornered. When a cat is backed into a corner, it commences to fighting in order to get away. Quickly, it boxes at its enemy with claws ready to defend. I remember even watching as my childhood cat, Hazel, caused a larger Mastiff to tuck tale and run. It was trying to get her food and as she was backed into a corner, she smacked him with her claws as though she was the largest of lions.

We as humans are really no different. James talks about this very thing, as he speaks about trials and difficulties we face. James 1:2 TPT reads, “My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can!”

James is pointing out trials and difficulties as something we face. This means that we must be backed into a corner in order to face them, or at the very least, see no way around the problem that is in front of us. However, James is telling us to count it as an opportunity to experience the greatest joy you can. Just like the cat backed into a corner, that little furry friend knows he has claws to work with. You can almost imagine a smirk from the cat and a thought, if cats could talk, “Go ahead, make my day!” We have ammo that is more powerful than built-in claws. We have power that is given to us to overcome anything.

The very next verse in James 1:3 says it all, “For you know that when your faith is tested it stirs up power within you to endure all things.” The cat knew he had power in him, his claws became a loaded weapon. So here James is telling us, use your “claws” power within you. What is that power? The Holy Spirit!

We read in 1 John 4:4 AMPC, “Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.”

The Holy Spirit and the Word of God is the power in us to overcome any trial, difficulty, or problem we ever will face. Nothing can stop you when you combine the forces of the Holy Spirit and the Word working in your life. Your life is meant for greater and the enemy knows it. He will come at you, just like the huge Mastiff after my cat and her food. His number one goal is to “kill, steal, and destroy”. He hates you. He hates everything that is good. And he certainly hates God and wants to overthrow anything or anyone that will give him power to do so.

However, the good news. Are you ready? You have been given power over every work of the enemy and anything he ever tries in your life. In Luke 10:19 TPT, Jesus makes a firm, bold, and powerful declaration to us as believers, “Now you understand that I have imparted unto you all my authority to trample over his kingdom. You will trample upon every demon before you and overcome every power Satan possesses. Absolutely nothing will be able to harm you as you walk in this authority.”

The devil, nor his minions, nor anything, will be able to stop you from taking steps forward in Christ. He wants desperately for the body of Christ to stay dormant and never learn this reality. Because he knows and understands that as long as you don’t truly grab this, he has control. He has power that you have given him. Are you ready immediately to stop that dumb devil and his cohorts? Are you ready to see things move more and more in your favor? Are you ready for addictions, bondages, pain, poverty, and whatever keeps coming against you to be broken forever? Then, grab ahold of what I am telling you today. Don’t wait another moment! You have to make the decision that, “enough is enough! The enemy no longer has control of anything in my life.” In fact, you can send the enemy away by that same authority and he HAS to listen.
This testing of your faith, James says, “ . . .stirs up power within you to endure all things.” James 1:3b.  You cannot endure without the power! You cannot take authority without realization of what is available inside of you as a believer. That realization comes from time in God’s word and prayer, receiving of God’s Holy Spirit. The bible tells us:

“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit. Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, offering praise with voices [and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:18-19 APMC

We are ever to be filled. That means a continual filling of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives. This infilling on the regular could be compared to that of a gas tank. You cannot run forever on one tank of gas. You have to refuel. It is important to regularly fill the tank so that you may get where you are going and not get stuck. So many Christians are like a car stuck on the side of the road with no gas. They lost power and the ability to go because they didn’t know how to “ever be filled”. They had an experience with God when they were thirteen years old or at some revival ten years ago. However, they have never pressed in to the Holy Spirit, continually. Well, if we are to overcome any trial, and attack, anything destructive in our life, we have to refuel in the Spirit, always!

Drinking, getting full again and again, by the Holy Ghost, is the only way to endure. The ONLY way to endure! Even reading this, you are feeling a stirring inside. A strength rising up right now. Go ahead, pause from reading this and just lift your hands to heaven right now. Take a drink. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you up. He will. Even now. Come on. What do you have to lose, except pride, bitterness, lust, poor mindset, addiction, and anything that does not belong in your life anyway. So go on, DRINK and be FILLED!

The great thing about this: we release perfection into every part of our being. Endurance grows stronger because of the power of God working in us. This is all accomplished by the testing. That is why we can count it all joy! Everything we face, every trial, every frustration, every temptation, every addiction that seems to fight you, any pain that keeps pestering you. You can literally declare, “Your days are numbered.”

James 1:4, “And then as your endurance grows even stronger it will release perfection into every part of your being until there is nothing missing and nothing lacking.”

Rejoice! How would you react if everything you have been believing God for was just answered and given unto you right now. Perfection is being released in your lives right now as you read this and endurance is working. God is who He is. His word never fails. He will accomplish in you, HIS righteousness. You will not be missing on that day and nor will you ever lack a day in your life again, in the might name of Jesus! If you believe that, then rejoice and know God is with you, even if you are backed in a corner. For now, you rise up and now you defeat anything through the power that Jesus has placed in you by his Holy Spirit. Amen!
